Recently several posts are being circulated around social media, claiming that the company Microsoft is laying off American workers. The accounts are using a video by Mansi Singhal, who shared her mini montage of her day at work. The posts suggested that Microsoft is doing this in an attempt to replace American workers for cheap Indian labour.

An X user by the handle ‘BigNToasty’ on 3 August 2025 shared the video of Mansi Singhal, a 24 year old software engineer at Microsoft. The post carried the caption: “Day in the life at the AMERICAN company Microsoft, and every employee in the video is Indian. Even the Subway and Baskin Robbins workers in the cafeteria are Indian. These people are stealing jobs from Americans for pennies on the dollar and a visa. This is absolutely ridiculous.”

In a similar fashion, a verified X user by the handle ‘NorthIdahoRight’ shared the same clip on August 3 2025. The caption read : “Microsoft applied for thousands of H-1B visas right after they fired 16,000 employees. This was to replace American workers with cheap foreign labor. Which is why all the employees you see in this video are Indian.”

FACT CHECK

DigitEYE India decided to check the claim and found that it is false. The employees shown are indeed Indian, but this is because the video is set in Hyderabad, India, not the United States. The video showcases the Microsoft campus at Hyderabad, a 54-acre campus which is described by the company as “smart” and “green.”

To confirm this we conducted a reverse image search of various keyframes and landed on an X post. This post by the user ‘dhami41’ shows pictures from the Microsoft Hyderabad campus, many which align with the original footage. Find the tweet below:

Moreover, reports by India Today and the New York Post also confirm that the campus in discussion is in Hyderabad and not in the United States. Find an image of the title from the article by India Today below –

Several users have also called out the account which had made such claims. On being checked, the user ‘BigNToasty’ admits that the Microsoft office in question is Hyderabad and not California. However, the user argues that Microsoft is an American company and “there SHOULD NOT be a Microsoft campus in Hyderabad.”

Thus, the presence of Indian employees in the video is consistent with the location, not indicative of a broader strategy to replace American workers. The claim is false and lacks in evidence of a direct cause behind the layoffs.
