Several social media users have claimed that the BJP has hoisted their party flag during a ceremony instead of the Indian national flag on Independence Day. National spokesperson for the Congress Party, Supriya Shrinate shared such a claim on X, captioned : “This video is from Dhamtari district of Chhattisgarh. On Independence Day, BJP people are hoisting the BJP flag – not the Tricolor. For 53 years, their ancestors boycotted the Tricolor – even today, they never tire of insulting the national flag.” Attached to the post is a 38 second video, showcasing members hoisting the BJP flag.

DigitEYE India decided to investigate this claim and found it to be false. The video is unrelated to any Independence Day celebration. It shows footage from a BJP organisational training session conducted at the Mandal Level Training Camp in Kurud in March 2026.
Details:
We first conducted a reverse image search on various keyframes of the video to learn more about it. The search took us to a post by Instagram user ‘bhanuchandraka’ in Hindi which was uploaded on 23 March, 2026. The caption, translated into English reads : “The training of Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay Training Maha Abhiyan Kurud Mandal for 22-23 March was inaugurated by the guests, speakers, office bearers and workers by hoisting the BJP flag in the Swami Vivekananda Mangal Bhawan premises…”
The visuals in the Instagram post match those shown in the claim, confirming that the footage is not from the recent Independence Day celebrations.
Following this, we conducted a web search with the phrase “BJP flag hosting at Swami Vivekananda Mangal Bhawan” for more information. The results took us to a Facebook post by the MLA of the Kurud constituency, Ajay Chandrakar uploaded on 22 March 2026. The caption of the post stated that “Today, at the Mandal Level Training Camp organized under the Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay Training Mega Campaign-2026 in Kurud, the flag of BJP was hoisted…”
Next, we searched for any official clarification and came across a X post by Ajay Chandrakar posted on 15 August 2026. He clarified that the video from the claim is from the BJP training camp on 22 March 2026 and not Independence Day.

In another X post dated 16 August 2026, Ajay Chandrakar tagged Supriya Shrinate, informing her about the FIR that had been filed. Translated into English, the post states that “the Congress Party has used the national festival as a medium to defame the BJP.” It further states that the “BJP organisation of Dhamtari district, by filing an FIR, has demanded action against Mallikarjun Kharge, Jairam Ramesh, Supriya Shrinate, and Pawan Khera as well.”
