Does this video show recent Congress and BJP workers clash in Patna from July 2026? Fact Check

Claim: Video allegedly shows BJP and Congress workers clashing in Patna in July 2026.
Conclusion: The claim is misleading. The footage is not from the recent BJP and Congress clash in Patna in July 2026. It actually dates back to August 2025 and shows an earlier confrontation between workers of the two parties. Although BJP and Congress did clash in Patna recently, the viral video is old.

Several social media users have shared a video, claiming that BJP workers and Congress workers clashed in Patna in July 2026. Verified X user ‘AjitSinghRathi’ shared such a post with the caption (translated from Hindi) : “After the embarrassment in Delhi, the BJP had called upon its workers to lay siege to the Congress office in the capital of every state. Take a look at what happened in Patna after that call; the Congress workers were also ready and waiting, and then exactly what you see in this video has happened.” Attached to the post is a 14 second video that shows BJP and Congress fighting with their party flags.
@INCIndia @BJP4India pic.twitter.com/fPD0HR9v4T— Ajit Singh Rathi (@AjitSinghRathi) July 22, 2026

FACT CHECK
DigitEYE India decided to investigate this claim and found it to be misleading. The viral video is not from the BJP and Congress clash that took place in Patna in July 2026. Instead, it shows an earlier confrontation between workers of the two parties from August 2025. Although a fresh clash did occur in Patna recently, the footage circulating online is unrelated to that incident.
Details:
We first conducted a reverse image search using several keyframes from the video to verify its origin. This led us to a YouTube video uploaded by Times Now on August 29, 2025, titled “BJP & Congress Workers Clash In Patna During Protest Over Abuse Against PM, Shocking Visuals On Cam.” At the 3:41 timestamp, the same visuals featured in the viral claim can be seen, confirming that the shared footage predates the claim.
The description of the above video notes that tensions “flared in Patna as BJP and Congress workers clashed on the streets during a protest over abusive remarks made against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his mother during Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra.’” The description further stated that the “clash came just hours after the arrest of a Congress worker.”

Following this, we came across a Facebook post from 30 August, 2025 uploaded by The Times of India, confirming this incident. The post states how a “clash erupted in #Patna between #BharatiyaJanataParty and #Congress workers. This followed a protest by the #BJP against alleged abuses directed at Prime Minister #NarendraModi and his mother.”
A keyword search using the phrase “Congress and BJP workers clash in Patna” led us to reports about a recent confrontation between the two parties. According to an NDTV report published on 22 July, 2026, “Violent scenes played out on the streets of Patna today as party workers from BJP and Congres clashed during a protest against Rahul Gandhi a day after his sit-in outside the prime minister’s house over the NEET paper leak”. “Both sides using lathis and attacking each other with stones.” The report further stated that “the police resorted to a lathi charge to disperse the protesters” and that several workers from both parties were injured in the violence. See the Report below:

However, a comparison of the visuals from the report with those shared in the viral claim shows that they are different. The footage used in the claim does not match the visuals of the recent Patna clash.
Thus, the claim is misleading.
