Rahul Gandhi dancing in Telangana after Morbi bridge collapse? Fact Check

A video showing Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Jairam Ramesh, and KC Venugopal dancing with locals is being widely shared with a claim that they were happily dancing after the bridge collapsed in Gujarat’s Morbi.

The narrative being that the Congress leaders were irresponsible to the tragedy in Gujarat where more than 150 were killed and instead dancing during the ongoing Bharat Jodo Yatra. Several such posts have been shared on twitter and received more than lakhs of retweets.

FACT CHECK

When we checked the origin of the video, it was from Congress Party showing its leaders dancing with the locals in a group dance and it was uploaded by the Indian National Congress officially with the same claim on 30 October capturing some events during the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Telangana.

The video has nothing to relate with the bridge collapse in Morbi, which has claimed the lives of at least 141 people.

Secondly, the event occurred in the morning of 30th October, while the bridge collapsed in the evening of 30th October, to be precise, at 6:32 pm.

See the original video uploaded on 30 October at 10:08 am with a caption, ‘Shri Rahul Gandhi and fellow Bharat Yatris take part in the traditional Bathukamma dance of Telangana.’

The truth is that Congress expressed its mourning and refused to be dragged into a political war over who is responsible. See Rahul Gandhi’s video here:

Claim: Congress leaders dancing happily after the Morbi bridge collapse in Gujarat.

Conclusion: FALSE. The video was of an event uploaded before the bridge collapse tragedy.
