Does this aerial video show flight captain’s announcement on Dev Deepavali fireworks in Varanasi? Fact Check

Claim: Viral post shows aerial video of Dev Deepavali Fireworks in Varanasi announced and explained by flight captain.

Conclusion: The claim is totally false. The video is not authentic flight footage but a creatively edited drone clip by content creator Anvesh Patel, with completely fabricated pilot narration.

Rating: Totally False —

Several users have shared a viral post that shows an aerial sweep of Varanasi’s Ganga ghats lit by diyas, boats and fireworks. X user ‘dushy40098’ shared such a claim with the caption :

“Fireworks at #Varanasi_Dev_Deepavali. Bird’s eye view from the flight and captain speaking. #SimplyAmazing” The audio narration mimicks a pilot’s announcement: “Good evening ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking… We are about to land in Varanasi, a city older than history.” View the post below –

Other users have shared similar claims which can be seen here and here.

FACT CHECK

DigitEYE India decided to investigate this claim and found that it is false. The original creator of the video is photographer Anvesh Patel whose instagram handle is clearly seen on the video. The “captain speaking” claims are false as the audio is overlaid by Patel himself.

Upon analyzing the video closely and conducting a reverse image search, every video had the instagram handle ‘@anveshgraphy’ on it. After searching this account on Instagram, the visuals match a November 3, 2025 reel of the same clip uploaded on his account. View the video and screenshot below –

The narration, praising Varanasi’s “divine energy” and festival lore, is Patel’s scripted voiceover mimicking pilots. He has used the same format in many other reels as seen on his Instagram account. When we searched the web for any such real-time flight announcements, we did not find any database or report.

Furthermore, we learned from a report published by the Hindustan Times on November 6, 2025, that Varanasi was declared a no flying zone. The same has happened in previous years too where drones and aircraft during Dev Deepavali festival were not allowed due to crowd safety and VIP events. View a section of the report below –

Thus, the claim is false.
