Verified X user ‘DailyLoud’ shared such a clip with the caption : “PlayStation 6 was reportedly showcased in Tokyo today.” Attached to the video is a 10 second clip which shows two console prototypes labeled “PS6” on display. DigitEYE India decided to investigate this claim and found it to be false. There’s currently no reliable proof or official communication from Sony confirming a PlayStation 6 launch. The footage being circulated is generated using AI and there are no credible reports of any real-world event taking place in Tokyo, Japan.
We first conducted a web search with the phrase “Playstation 6 revealed in Tokyo” to learn more. However, we did not find any reports from any media outlets or tech/gaming news portals. X trending section which summarized tweets and Grok’s reply noted that since the post was shared on 1st April, 2026, the timing is a classic indicator of April Fool’s prank.
Following this, we checked Playstation’s official Blog page to learn about the recent updates and news. The last posts on the page were about Playstation’s monthly games for April, top March 2026 downloads and an update about a new PSSR upscaler being available for Assassin Creed’s Shadows. According to a report by Polygon published on February 18, 2026, “Sony is considering pushing back the launch of the PlayStation 6 to 2028 or even 2029.” The report further notes that “insatiable demand for memory chips to put in processors in the AI datacenters…is causing severe supply issues and huge price hikes in the cost of all kinds of computing, including games hardware.” Moreover, “until recently it seemed that a November 2027 release for the PlayStation 6 was on the cards…” View a section from the report below –
Following this, another report by Wccftech published on April 3, 2026 writes about how the “PlayStation 6 is Not Many Years Away,” with leaks suggesting Sony is already pushing an “imminent generational transition.” It highlights that “Power Saver Mode is a Trojan Horse for supporting PlayStation 6 handheld,” among other handheld evidence.
The report explains that Sony’s new PlayGo system is Sony’s “version of Xbox’s Smart Delivery,” letting consoles “only download the exact files it will use,” This feature exists because “this ‘mode’ was going to be the entire bases of a new console”.
