Macron has criticized Trump’s position in the Iran war and a BBC report published on April 2, 2026 records his statements during his State Visit to South Korea. A Reuters report published on 25 April 2026 states that Emmanuel Macron was pushing for the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz amid the ongoing US-Iran conflict. Macron warned that “panic caused by geopolitical uncertainty can in itself lead to shortages” and stressed that freedom of navigation must be restored “without tolls” in accordance with international law. He also described countries as “victims of geopolitics” and “victims of this war” but did not say anything about the war being an end to the American century.
