Did this ABP and C-Voter poll predict majority for INDIA bloc in Lok Sabha elections? Fact Check

Amid the election fever subsiding with the last phase of voting scheduled on June 1, social media platforms are abuzz with expectations and estimates surfacing from every corner. One such social media post shared a screenshot of an opinion poll by ABP News and pollster CVoter, while the caption says: “मनोज तिवारी तो गयो  [Manoj Tiwari is gone].”

The claim was that the ABP-C-Voter poll predicted a win for the INDIA bloc with 258 to 286 seats in the Lok Sabha while the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) get 232 to 253 seats. With 545 seats in Lok Sabha, a party or alliance requires 272 seats to come to power. It shows the VVIP Opinion Poll that the news channel aired recently.

The post has been shared widely and can be accessed here and here.

FACT-CHECK

Taking the image and searching it on Google Reverse Image Search led us to some old videos by ABP and one of them was uploaded on December 26, 2023, titled: ‘Lok Sabha Opinion Poll 2024: अमेठी लोक सभा सीट पर किसे कितने प्रतिशत वोट [Who will get what percentage votes in the Amethi]? | abp C Voter Survey’.

The figures in this graph show 165 to 205 seats for the INDIA bloc and 295-335 seats for the NDA, instead of the claim that 258 to 286 seats for INDIA bloc and 232-253 for NDA as claimed.

Region-wise, the original findings projected 150-160 seats for NDA in the North but the altered version showed 90-110 seats. The C-Voter projected 20-30 seats for the INDIA bloc while the altered graphic showed 70-90 seats for this alliance.

ABP News has also refuted the claim as fake in its post here:

Hence, the old survey graphic was edited and shown as latest to predict INDIA bloc gaining majority seats.

Claim: ABP-CVoter poll predicted a win for INDIA bloc with 258 to 286 seats in the Lok Sabha.

Conclusion: The claim is false. The screenshot of ABP-CVoter survey was edited to show that the INDIA bloc would win majority in Lok Sabha elections.
