As Congress leader Rahul Gandhi visited Manipur soon after raising the issue of violence in Lok Sabha on July 1, 2024, several videos have surfaced on social media with claims that protests were held against him in the strife-torn state.

One such caption reads: “Rahul Gandhi has been asked to go back from Manipur by local residents, as his inflammatory speeches would trigger into new clashes. This was Yesterday 8- 7- 2024, so he had to return.(sic) ”

FACT-CHECK

When Digiteye India received a request on WhatsApp, our team searched for news videos on Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Manipur. Based on key frames from the video claim and checking them on Google Reverse Image Search showed that the video was an old one uploaded on January 21 , 2024 taken in the Ambagan area of Nagaon, Assam.

This can be confirmed by a video by the news agency ANI and another news report in Malayalam publication “www.madhyamam.com” which showed the original videos to prove that both are from Rahul Gandhi’s January 21, 2024 visit to Assam and not from his latest Manipur visit as claimed.

It was part of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra undertaken by Rahul Gandhi which started in January 2024 from Manipur to Mumbai and the protests were held in Nagaon, Assam, and duly captured in this video. Hence, the video is not from Manipur as claimed.

In fact, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi received a grand welcome when he visited relief camps in Manipur on July 8, 2024 as seen in the video below:

Hence, the claim that Rahul Gandhi has been asked to go back in Manipur by residents during his July 8, 2024 visit is false.
