Unrelated video shared as the last taken by Air India-171 crew before Ahmedabad crash; Fact check

A video has gone viral on social media soon after the tragic Air India Flight AI171 crash claiming that it captures the last moments of the crew before they boarded the flight. The flight had 12 crew members who perished in the crash. See the video:

This is the last video of all 12 crew members in Crashed Air India Plane during their boarding.

Everybody came out laughing and happy.

The video has gone viral on X, Youtube Shorts, Instagram Reels and other social media platforms. The claim in X reads: “This is the last video of all 12 crew members in Crashed Air India Plane during their boarding. Everybody came out laughing and happy. But they didn’t know that this was our last video. “Rest in peace, brave souls. Your final journey was unforeseen, but your spirit remains unforgettable. #RIP“”

FACT-CHECK

Upon scrutiny of the video, Digiteye India team checked first tried to check the authenticity of the video. Taking keyframes and performing Google Reverse Image Search yielded results which showed that the crew member who posted the short video was one named Yashasvi Sharma, who uploaded it on Instagram under the username @yashasvi_explorer on June 9, 2025, three days before the AI-171 crash occurred in Ahmedabad on June 12, 2025.

When this video started making the rounds, Yashasvi Sharma shared on Instagram another post to confirm that she was safe, though  heartbroken over the accident.  She wrote: “Hi everyone, Thank you so much for reaching out. I’m safe and currently in Mumbai. I’m deeply shaken and heartbroken by what’s happened. It’s a very difficult time for us 🙏🏻.”

Hence, the claim that it was the video of the AI171 crew before they boarded the ill-fated Air India flight is false.
