The video shows the Canadian parliament where the opposition leader presents his points. The video has gone viral on X (formerly Twitter) where it has fetched over 12K likes, over 3K retweets, and more than 595K views. The claim attached to the video reads,

News: 🇨🇦 In the Canadian Parliament, Opposition Leader Scheer takes aim at @JustinTrudeau
over the diplomatic row with India:

“Do you have any evidence for your conspiracy theories? The Prime Minister’s incompetence has damaged Canada’s relations with a key Asian power and the world’s largest democracy, India.

The presence of a convicted terrorist on Canadian soil is not India’s responsibility.” 🇨🇦🤝🇮🇳 #IndiaCanadaRow

Digiteye India received a WhatsApp request to fact check this viral video.

FACT CHECK

The Digiteye India team used the names of these leaders and conducted a keyword search on Google. In one of the frames of the video, a logo that reads, “The Canadian Press” is visible. We used this cue in our keyword search to look for the video.

One of the results led us to this video that was posted by The Canadian Press on YouTube. The video was posted on March 1, 2018, and it is titled, ‘Scheer accuses Trudeau of damaging Canada-India relationship.’ We found out that from 0:00 to 0:32 is the same as the one in the viral video. The Canadian Press video moves on to present Justin Trudeau’s side. However, that part is cut from the viral video.

Again from 1:35 to 1:55 where Andrew Scheer presents his points has been used in the viral video. These two segments have been cut to stitch the viral video.

Scheer’s accusation comes when Trudeau visited India in 2018. At that meeting, a Khalistani separatist Jaspal Atwal who was convicted in the attempted murder case of former Punjab Minister Malkiat Singh Sidhu in 1986 was also invited. Trudeau’s wife was photographed with Atwal. This incident gave the opposition a chance to talk about Trudeau’s “incompetence.”

In another tweet, the user who had shared this video tweeted that the video “is old, and not recent.”

Hence, the claim that the video is recent is false.

CLAIM: Canadian opposition leader, Andrew Scheer, recently lashed out at Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau for damaging the India-Canada relations.

CONCLUSION: The video is not recent and is from 2018.

RATING: Misrepresentation —
