Distorted video shows Rahul Gandhi saying people die of hunger after saying ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ and ‘Jai Shriram’; Fact Check

A video showing Congress leader Rahul Gandhi saying that people will die of hunger if they say ‘Bharat Mata ki jai’ and ‘Jai Shree Ram’ is being shared widely on social media here.

FACT CHECK

When the Digiteye India team checked for the original video, it showed that Rahul Gandhi was addressing a public meeting on February 19, 2024 in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh, as part of the ‘Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra’. The original video available on Congress Party’s official Youtube channel shows that it was distorted to show him negatively.

See the video here, especially from 26:22 to 26:29 and again from 26:59 to 27:10, where Rahul Gandhi was making the statements criticizing the BJP’s government at the Centre on the issue of unemployment. Titled, “Shri Mallikarjun Kharge and Shri Rahul Gandhi address the public in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh”, the video doesn’t show him saying these words continuously as claimed.

If one carefully watches the full-length video, the context of Rahul Gandhi’s words is clear. Here is the full text of what Rahul Gandhi said in Hindi and the translated version reads:

“In the inauguration Ram mandir, did you see a Dalit, did you see a farmer? The President of India was not allowed inside, did you see a farmer or a labourer? You have seen Adani, you have seen Ambani, you have seen Amitabh Bachchan, your Hindustan does not exist. Your job is to say, ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ and ‘Jai Shri Ram’. Their (Adani and Ambani) job is to count money, their job is to fly in a private plane, their job is to have fun, your job is to look here and there, look there brother, Pakistan, look there brother Amitabh Bachchan has performed a new dance, keep doing it brother, keep doing it… Do as much as you want, have fun, everyone will die of hunger, everyone will die of hunger, everyone’s time will come, no one will be left… Everyone will die of hunger.” (Translation from Hindi to English).

Hence, Rahul Gandhi’s speech has been taken out of context and edited to show that he said people will die of hunger if they say ‘Bharat Mata ki jai’ and ‘Jai Shree Ram’. The claim is totally false.

Claim: Rahul Gandhi’s video shows him saying people will die of hunger if they say, ‘Bharat Mata ki jai’ and ‘Jai Shree Ram’.
Conclusion: False. Rahul Gandhi’s speech in the original video has been clipped and edited to show him negatively.
Rating: Totally False — Five rating
