A video has gone viral recently on social media platforms with a claim that the veteran actress Vyjayanthimala was seen dancing at the age of 99. The caption reads: “Difficult to believe she is Vyjayanthimala… She was all grace, an excellent dancer. At 99, she can still dance. Really… Retired but not tired.” It was also shared here.

FACT CHECK

When Digiteye India received a request on Whatsapp for a fact check, we took some prominent frames of the video and checked them on Google Reverse Image search and found that it was used in a news report by ABP Live on December 6, 2022, about an elderly woman who was 93 years then.

She was seen dancing to Bollywood veteran Shammi Kapoor’s famous song ‘Badan Pe Sitare Lapete Huye’. The report does not mention that the elderly woman in the viral video is actress Vyjayanthimala.

When searched further, several media reports carried the news in December 2022 about a 93-year-old grandmother is seen dancing with a lot of fun. She is seen doing a tremendous dance to the famous number by Shammi Kapoor and Vyjayanthimala in the film ‘Prince’.

Moreover, the dancer in the video doesn’t look like Vyjayanthimala who can be seen in a recent photo when she was present at a function in Chennai. The event was covered by Mylapore Times on March 21, 2023.

As per the records available on IMDB, Vyjayanthimala was born on August 13, 1933, which means she is currently aged 89 years and not 99 years as per the claim.

The video in the claim is an unrelated video and falsely attributed to Vyjayanthimala.

Claim: Wrong video shared as that of veteran actress Vyjayanthimala dancing at the age of 99.
Conclusion: The person dancing in the video is not Vyjayanthimala, whose age is 89 years and not 99 years.
Rating: Misrepresentation —
