Several social media users are sharing a video that allegedly shows Delhi Police DCP Sumit Jha resigning over the recent student-led CJP protests. Facebook user “Shakir Khan” shared one such post with the caption (translated into English) : “Delhi DCP has resigned over taking action against students.” Attached to the post is a 47 second video that allegedly shows DCP Jha resigning. The text overlaid on the video reads (translated into English): “Delhi Police’s DCP viral resignation video.”

In the video shared with the claim, DCP Sumit Jha states that he is resigning from the Delhi Police. He says that the government expects him to lie to the press by portraying the students protesting on the streets as criminals. He adds that he cannot participate in any activity that targets innocent students, stating that they are not terrorists but the country’s future. Furthermore, he says that he joined the police to uphold the truth and therefore, cannot stand with the government, choosing instead to support the students.
FACT CHECK
DigitEYE India decided to investigate this claim and found it to be totally false. The video’s audio has been artificially manipulated using AI and DCP Sumit Jha has not resigned from the Delhi Police. In the original footage, he is seen warning the public about misinformation campaigns. The false resignation claim has also been officially refuted by both the PIB Fact Check unit and the Delhi Police.
Details:
We first conducted a reverse image search on various keyframes of the video to learn more about the origin. The search took us to a X post by Delhi Police uploaded on July 23, 2026 featuring the same visuals. The post is captioned : “480 Pakistan-based social media handles involved in coordinated misinformation campaigns were identified and blocked. Delhi Police appeals to students and youth to be wary of such foreign accounts spreading rumours to mislead the situation.”

Attached to the post is a 54 second video featuring DCP Sumit Jha warning the public about Pakistani social media handles spreading misinformation. He states that these accounts are being blocked and notes that similar accounts were also active during Operation Sindoor. He further explains that the objective of these Pakistani social media handles is to provoke students and create unrest.
Therefore, in the interest of students’ safety, he advises the public not to share such posts without first verifying them through reliable fact checking. He also reiterates that peaceful protest is a fundamental right and that the Delhi Police respects and upholds that right.
Following this, we came across another X post by PIB that has debunked this claim. The post notes that the video “ falsely claims that Delhi Police DCP Sumit Jha has resigned with immediate effect in support of the Jantar Mantar protest.” Moreover, the “video has been generated using #AI” and is digitally altered.

DigitEYE India did not find any credible report or official notification that suggests Delhi Police DCP Sumit Jha has resigned. On 26 July, 2026, Delhi Police explicitly stated that the “viral video claiming Delhi Police DCP Sumit Jha resigned over student protests is completely fake and AI generated.” They tagged the original video and urged the people to “refrain from forwarding or sharing the edited clip…”

Lastly, we independently verified the authenticity of the video by running it through an AI voice detector tool. The results showed that the audio was only 14% human while the rest of the 86% was manipulated using AI. View the results below –
