Scripted video shows Airport Security staff stealing money from passenger’s purse; Fact Check

A video is circulating on social media with a claim that it shows an airport staff member stealing money from a passenger’s purse. It attracted several reactions from the users on Twitter, as shown below, with caution against the airport security staff.

It reads in Hindi (written in English script): Airport se safar karne wale pessenger is video ko khas karke zaroor dekho… airport k andar ka staff passenger ka rupya Paisa kis tarah se chori karte hain zara dekh Lo… is video ko apne sabhi group mein share karo… (The translated version in English reads: Passengers traveling by air must watch this video. See how the staff inside the airport steal a passenger’s money. Share this video in all your groups…)

FACT CHECK

Digiteye India took it up for fact-checking based on a WhatsApp request and found that it was already widely shared on other social media platforms. When the team took key frames from the video using the InVid tool and checked them on Google Reverse Image Search, the results showed that the video was uploaded on YouTube on November 1, 2023 by PaulVu TV. The title of the original video says, ‘Greedy employee takes from passenger!’.

When we checked the publisher’s home page, we realised that there were several scripted videos featuring the same actors either as victims or as perpetrators. See the home page of PaulVu TV here: The rounded ones show the same person in three videos uploaded a month ago.

Hence, this is a scripted video and not real.

Claim: Video shows security staff stealing an air traveler’s cash from a purse.

Conclusion: A scripted video showing the process by actors who’re seen in several videos uploaded by the publisher.

Rating: Misrepresentation —
