Short movie trailer showing police “brutality” passed off as real, demanding action; Fact Check

A video of a man being tortured by a few policemen is making rounds with a claim in Hindi that says, “पता नहीं ये कहां की वीडियो है लेकिन इन वाहशी पुलिस वालों पर सख्त कार्रवाई होनी चाहिए हुकूमत ने इतनी नफ़रत भर दी है कि लोग हैवानियत पर उतर आए हैं [Translated into English as: “Don’t know where this video is from, but strict action should be taken against these savage policemen. The government has filled everyone with so much hatred that people have come down to brutality.”

The video clip shows one police officer pinning the victim to the ground with his right foot and holding a gun to his face. Another police officer and a man in plain clothes torture him and remove his nails.

The post has gone viral on Twitter and received more than 38,000 views and had been retweeted over 1,700 times.
It has been shared here and here. Now the tweet has been deleted.

FACT CHECK

Digiteye India team received a request on its WhatsApp number for a fact check and we used Invid to get key frames of the video and checked them on Google Reverse Image search. The results showed a Youtube Shorts video uploaded by Vipin Pandey Entertainment Production. Here’s the original video put out on July 28 with the caption: “Coming soon video So please support my youtube channel”:

As it showed that it was related to a short movie, when we searched, we found a video on Youtube uploaded on July 31, 2023. The poster read in Hindi “Dosti ki Saza” (Punishment for friendship).

The movie was produced by Vipin Pandey with a claim that says, “This story is inspired by true events”. The description reads: “Delhi Sakshi murder: How 16-year-old Sakshi was killed after being stabbed with a knife and hit with a rock in Delhi’s Shahbad Dairy area: Through this video, we are trying to spread the message that the parents should try to be close to their kids so that they feel free to share everything with them.”

It may be noted that the murder of Sakshi shocked Delhi just a few weeks ago and the scripted short film was performed by professional actors and not real policemen as alleged in the tweet. Hence, the claim that the clip shows a case of police brutality is false.

Claim: Strict action should be taken against these savage policemen (shown in the video). The government has filled everyone with so much hatred that people have come down to brutality.

Conclusion: The video clip is from a short movie based on Sakshi’s murder in Delhi and not a real incident.

Rating: Misrepresentation —
