FACT CHECK

DigitEYE India decided to investigate this claim and found that it is false. There is no credible proof or verified reports from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Moreover, the letter is fabricated and has not been released by Gautam Gambhir.

We conducted a web search with the keyword “Gautam Gambhir resigns BCCI” to learn more about the claim. The Board of Control for Cricket in India has issued no statement on his resignation. There has been no press release or confirmation about this letter on their official website. The latest press releases is pertaining to India’s squad for IDFC First Bank ODI series against South Africa on 23rd November. View the screenshot below:

Following this, we checked Gautam Gambhir’s official channels, including his X account  which shows no such announcement. We then turned our attention to the letter that had no letterhead, no official signature or proper format. All of these inconsistencies make the letter more suspicious, including the Indian flag emoji as emojis are not used in official/professional letters. View the letter below:

During our follow up review on X, we traced the original post and confirmed that the claim was pushed by the verified user “imRavY_,” whose post gained about 2.9 million views. The user intentionally changed the display name to “Gaotam Gambhir” (a misspelled version of Gautam Gambhir) in order to spread the fake letter.

The account has now been renamed to “RavY,” but when the misinformation was circulated, this fake identity was being used. Our team captured a screenshot on November 24, 2025, showing the account under the false name which can be seen below.

Thus, the claim is false.
