FACT CHECK

DigitEYE India decided to investigate this claim and found it to be totally false. There is no confirmation from any credible media organisation or official sources that Sanju Samson has been appointed as a DSP in the Kerala Police. The circulating image appears to be AI-generated with no verifiable evidence backing the claim.

First, we checked Kerala Police’s official website for any information on Sanju Samson’s appointment. The news and events section have no mention of Sanju Samson, cricket, T20 World Cup or DSP appointment. After translating the page into English, the latest news is regarding the 74th police volleyball cluster competition, 146 new vehicle updates and remarks from the Kerala Chief Minster. Next, we came across a MSN report published on March 17, 2026 that sheds light on the civilian honour given to Sanju Samson. The report states that Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan formally felicitated Sanju Samson at the Cliff House, honouring him for his role in India’s T20 World Cup win. Vijayan described him as the “pride of the country” and conveyed the “love and happiness of the country” for his achievements. View a section from the report below –

Notably, the above report also mentions that Sanju Samson emerged as India’s top performer in the tournament, finishing as the highest run-scorer with 321 runs and earning the Player of the Tournament award. His performance included three consecutive half-centuries in crucial knockout games.

Next, we searched for the criteria of becoming a DSP and whether the state can make a person a DSP. As per Physicswallah’s article, a person can pass the “State Public Service Commission exams for state-level police services.” The article also notes that aspirants “become DSP through State PSC exams (direct recruitment) or by promotion within the police cadre”. Its recruitment is strictly governed by rules, requiring merit-based selection, qualifications and physical training.

However in November 2025, Indian women cricketer Deepti Sharma was appointed as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in the Uttar Pradesh Police under the sports quota following her standout performance in the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup. She was later formally honoured by the police leadership with officials praising her achievements for bringing pride to both the state and the country.

Therefore, DigitEYE India concludes that a state cannot randomly appoint a person to the position of DSP within the police force, unless an exception has been made for persons of great achievements. As for the image shared, we ran it through Hive Moderation’s AI detector to check its authenticity. The results proved that the image is generated using AI and is not real. See the results below –

Thus, the claim is totally false.
