Verified X user ‘TheJudgesHQ’ shared such a post with the caption : “Actor Richard Gere is pictured on the streets of NYC a homeless man… this is devastating to see for a once a Billionaire” Attached to the post are two images allegedly showcasing Gere in a state of poverty and living on the streets. The post gained over 1.5 million views and can be seen below –

DigitEYE India decided to investigate this claim and found it to be false. The images shown are promotional photographs or behind-the-scenes stills from Richard Gere’s 2015 film ‘Time Out of Mind’, in which he played George, a homeless man.
We first conducted a reverse image search to learn about the origins and more context about the image. The search took us to a Pinterest post by The Daily Mail titled : “Richard looks Gere for his role as homeless man in Time Out Of Mind.” The post noted how “the 64-year-old actor was back on the set of his new film Time Out Of Mind in the East Village neighbourhood…”
Using these details, we conducted a web search with the phrase “Richard Gere’s homeless character in Time Out of Mind” to learn more. According to an article uploaded by the New York Post on 24 April, 2014, ‘Gere was in character for his upcoming flick “Time Out of Mind”. The article notes how nobody could recognize him and he even accepted a bag of food from a French tourist.
Another report by Entertainment Weekly uploaded on 8 September, 2015 also confirms the actor’s role in ‘Time Out of Mind.’ The report shares an image of the actor in the role whose attire matches that of the claim. Gere “plays a homeless man in New York City named George” and many “segments of the film were shot with hidden cameras, through windows and storefronts.” View a section from the report below –
