A social media post is going viral with a claim that the Tata group has decided to build the new Parliament building in 17 months at a cost of just one rupee as a ‘gift to the nation’. It has appeared soon after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the new Parliament building on March 30, 2023. See the claims here:

The claim reads:

It was shared again as: “Did you know that TATA group has decided to build the “New Parliament Building” in 17 months for just one Rupee”.

FACT CHECK
A simple search on tender won by Tata group showed that the tender for construction of the new parliament building at a cost of Rs.861 crore was won by the Tata group on Sept 16, 2020. See news here.
“Tata Projects Limited (TPL) on Wednesday won the contract to build a new Parliament building at a cost of Rs 861.90 crore. Among all the bids, Tata Group emerged as the lowest bidder. The next lowest bidder, L&T Ltd, had submitted a bid of Rs 865 crore.”
In a statement Tata Group said that it was “delighted to share TPL is L1 for New Parliament House project.” Hence, the claim that the Tata Group is constructing the new parliament building for just one rupee is totally false.
