Video shows 25,000 havan kunds as part of Ayodhya Ram Mandir event: Fact Check

A viral video showing about 25,000 havan kunds ahead of the inauguration of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 22, 2024 is making the rounds on social media.

The claim says that the havan kunds shown in the video are getting ready for the inauguration event of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. It reads in Hindi:“इन 25000 हजार हवन कुंडो से होगा “राम मंदिर” का उद्घाटन… जय श्री राम” [Translated, it reads: “These 25000 thousand havan pots will be used for the inauguration of “Ram Mandir” … Hail Lord Ram”

FACT CHECK

Digiteye India cross-checked the key frames from this video and searched on Google Reverse Image Search. The search results showed that the clip had gone viral last month and not related to the Ayodhya Ram Mandir inauguration but from Swarved Mahamandi Dham, Varanasi held in Decemebr 2023.

One such news video clearly captures the event and the context on YouTube, uploaded on December 16, 2023 by a local channel “Arun Village Boy Vlog” as seen above. The title reads: “स्वर्वेद महामंदिर धाम वाराणसी 25 हजार हवन कुंड | एक साथ सभी को जगाया जाएगा ! Swarved Maha Mandir Dham” [The translated version reads: “Swarved Mahamandir Dham Varanasi 25 thousand havan kund. All of them would lit at the same time”.

When we searched further, we found another video as seen below:

Similar videos can be seen showing several stages of people performing the Yagna in Havan Kunds at the Swarved Mahamandir Dham. News reports confirm that Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Swarved Mahamandir, a huge temple located in Varanasi’s Umaraha area.

Hence, the claim that video showing Havan Kunds is not from Ayodhya but it is from Swarved Mahmandir dham in Varanasi.
