Is Asaduddin Owaisi chanting Shiva Tandava Stotram on stage? Fact Check

A video of AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi is going viral on social media, showing him chanting Shiva Tandava Stotram perfectly which surprises everyone, knowing the fact that he was never seen doing this before. The video was shared on Twitter by a user with a message in Telugu that said: “Shiva Tandava Stotram from the mouth of Saheb as Madhavi Lata garu is competing against him… Well said sir, if you see to it that there are no communal clashes, you will win again – my own opinion.”

Similar messages showing Owaisi singing a Hindi tune or another were shared in the past on social media here and here.  As the election fever is gripping the country, the message gained attention as Telugu and Tamil actor Madhavi Latha’s name was announced as BJP’s candidate to contest the Lok Sabha elections against Owaisi from the Hyderabad constituency.

FACT CHECK

When the Digiteye India team took some keyframes and checked them on Google Reverse Image Search, we found that the original video, about his speech in Bijapur in Karnataka, about two years ago. See the original video here:

Owaisi was seen saying, “Modi Ji, Kya Bijapur Pakistan Hai? Bijapur, Karnataka ka dil hai, Bijapur Karnataka ka Itihas hai aur Bijapur ke Gol Gumbaj Karnataka ki Khubsurti ki misal hai.”[Modi Ji, Bijapur is like the heart of Karnataka and a part of the history of Karnataka.]

Secondly, some of the facial movements and hand gestures are very unnatural and not caught on the original video. Further, there is no lip-syncing with the sound of the Shiva Tandava Stotram being heard. Hence, the video was digitally altered.

Conclusion: False, the sound track of the video and the hand gestures were altered to show Owaisi chanting Shiva Tandava stotram.
