X user @amoxcicillin1 posted two photos which claimed they were opinion poll survey documents from Axis My India with the caption, “BREAKING NEWS. This Opinion Poll from AMI is circulating on social media which is claiming that BJP is well short of majority in 2024. BJP 215 (NDA = 248) INC 118 (INDIA = 236). This survey shows loss of seats for BJP in dozens of states. And projecting the game open. This is an alleged survey getting viral on social media, no authenticity proven yet.”

Another user shared the report with a caption that said, “The viral image with a letterhead of Axis My India showing some key states and the seats projected to be won by different political parties has gone viral, triggering a heated debate around the mistakes as well.”

FACT-CHECK

Digiteye India set out to check the authenticity of the post as the tally for Karnataka was unprofessional. Out of 28 seats in Karnataka, 11 were shown for NDA and out of which BJP to get 14, while 14 more for Congress, which do not add up.

Next, we found a news report published by Money Control website, quoting Pradeep Gupta, psephologist and managing director of Axis My India, who said that the NDA faces a tough battle in 13 key states but did not give any tally or numbers. The report elicited his views as the first phase of elections kicked off on Friday, April 19, 2024 for 102 constituencies. In fact, Pradeep Gupta had expressed similar views a month ago on March 15, 2024 in an exclusive IANS interview and they too were general in nature with no specific numbers being thrown in.

Further search on the official website of Axis My India yielded no results and soon we found a press release put out on Twitter by the agency stating that they do not conduct any pre-poll surveys but only exit poll surveys.

It said, “This is to inform you all that Axis My India never publishes any kind of pre-poll / opinion poll. This will hold true for the entire period till the exit polls are released by us after the elections as per ECI guidelines, on June 1 at 6.30 pm. Also, there is nothing called internal / external report.”

Hence, the claim that Axis My India survey page shows NDA 13 key states where NDA faces tough challenge is false.

Claim: Axis My India survey figures show NDA faces tough challenge in 13 key states in 2024 elections.

Conclusion: The claim is false. Axis My India denied it and clarified that they conduct only exit polls.
