As Mumbai rains have hit headlines for the second time in one week, a video of heavily flooded streets with vehicles being swept away has gone viral on social media. The claim made with the video says that the current situation in Mumbai has worsened questioning the state government.

The claim reads: “Mumbai Rains From “What a Lovely to Vaat Lavali” in just 30 min.” The context is the current heavy rains in Mumbai with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) declaring a “red alert” in the city and its surroundings including Thane, Navi Mumbai, Panvel, and even Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg.

FACT CHECK

When Digiteye India took out keyframes and checked them on Google Reverse Image Search, the results pointed out similar videos reported by news TV channels in 2020 when the city was heavily flooded. See the original video uploaded on FaceBook here:

News reports also confirmed that the video was from August 2020 when many parts of South Mumbai experienced floods at the time. The city witnessed gusty winds of up to 70 kmph, with hundreds of trees uprooted and many roads flooded, repors said.

Hence, the video being shared now is from August 2020 that was shot on Cawasji Patel Tank Road in Mumbai.
