A video is being shared on social media by some followers of the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in Andhra Pradesh claiming that former CM Jagan Mohan Reddy was throwing away temple prasad and Theertha offered to him by Hindu priests in the video.

See the video being shared on social media here:

The claim reads in Telugu: “తిరుమల లడ్డూ ప్రసాదంగా ఇస్తే, వాసన చూడటం వదిలేయటం. ఇంట్లో గుడి సెట్టింగ్ వేసుకోవటం, అక్కడ తీర్ధం ఇస్తే తాగినట్టు యాక్షన్ చేసి కింద పోసేయటం. ఏ నాడు సతీ సమేతంగా పట్టు వస్త్రాలు ఇవ్వక పోవటం. గత 5 ఏళ్ళ వ్యక్తిగతంగా కూడా స్వామి వారిని అపవిత్రం చేసాడు జగన్ రెడ్డి.” Translated from Telugu it reads in English:”If Tirumala laddu is given as prasad, just smells it and leaves. Setting up a temple set in the house, but when given teertha, he acts like drinking but throws it off. Not giving silk clothes as part of tradition, Jagan Reddy has defiled Lord Venkateshwara for the past 5 years.”

FACT CHECK

Taking a few key frames from the video we conducted Google Reverse Image Search and the results threw up a link to the original YouTube video uploaded by Sakshi TV on January 14, 2024, where Jagan Mohan Reddy, then CM of Andhra Pradesh, was seen with his wife, YS Bharathi Reddy, and the occasion was annual Sankranti celebrations.

In this video, the priest offers Jagan ‘charanamrit’ which he drinks at 2:58 timestamp clearly and also revolves his hand around his head as is the practice in South India. But this part has been deleted from the video shared in the viral claim. The same has been shared again by YSRCP as seen below:

Hence, the claim by X handle @JaiTDP is false.
