Did Elton John endorse Trump in 2024 US Presidential election? Fact Check

As the polling day nears for the US presidential election, several celebrity endorsements for Kamala Harris or Donald Trump have surfaced online. One such claim on social media stated that Elton John among others have endorsed Trump’s candidature.

An X user named Alex Jones shared a post on X that reads: “The Kamala Harris Campaign Has Completely Collapsed! Hundreds Of Top Celebrities Like The Rock, Elton John & More Have All Endorsed Trump, Signaling A TOTAL Shift & Mass Awakening! — FULL SHOW 9/9/24.” See the tweet here:

FACT CHECK

As the claim was unlikely, Digiteye India fact-checked the same for authenticity. We came across Elton John’s latest interview to Variety magazine, where he said Trump was his fan and that he “has always been friendly towards him”, but refused to endorse any candidate.

“It’s none of my business how they vote… I just hope that people make the right decision to see what the future is going to be. Is it going to be fire and brimstone … or are we going to have a much calmer, a much safer place?”

Hence, his non-committed interview was misinterpreted to claim as an endorsement of Trump. Similarly, Dwayne ‘The Rock‘ Johnson declined to endorse Trump in 2020 elections and has not changed his stand either. As both Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Elton John have confirmed that they are not endorsing either candidate, neither of them is endorsing Trump.

In fact, the trend of celebrity endorsements is increasing ever since Taylor Swift endorsed Harris in September, leading to several contrary claims and spreading misinformation about her.

Claim: Singer Elton John endorsed Trump.

Conclusion: Misleading. Elton John never openly endorsed Trump.
