Old video clip used to pass off as Telangana’s Congress victory march; Fact Check

After the election results in Telangana, a video is going viral on social media with a claim that during the victory march of the Congress party, supporters were displaying the flag with Kalima or the Muslim confession of faith, written on it. The claim reads:

“तेलंगाना में कांग्रेस के जीतते ही भारत के झंडे पर कलमा लिख दिया गया…… क्या अब भी कांग्रेस को लाना चाहोगे अपने अपने प्रदेस में या केंद्र में…. हिन्दुओ सावधान कांग्रेस से…” [Translated, the English version reads: As soon as Congress won in Telangana, Kalma was written on the flag of India… Would you still like to bring Congress to your respective states or the Centre? Hindus beware of Congress…].
The video footage of news channel Zee is showing its erstwhile editor Sudhir Chaudhury saying, “This is Asaduddin Owaisi’s party. This incident will be a great challenge to the democracy of India. During a rally in Telangana, protestors tampered with the Indian flag, removing the Ashok Chakra with the Islamic Kalima. Now you can say why I’m saying that there is nothing above religion for them and they don’t understand the constitution… (sic)”

Fact Check

First of all, Sudhir Chaudhury is not working with the Zee News channel currently and is with the Aaj Tak news channel now. So, when we searched for the original video with key frames taken out for relevant clues on Google Reverse Image Search, we could locate the original video that was uploaded last year.

The original video was about the remarks made by Sudhir Chaudhury referring to protests against Nupur Sharma after her remarks and it  was uploaded on June 10, 2022 as shown here.

See the footage from 31.00 to 34.00 that consists of the same clip that was taken out and shown as that of Telangana election victory march by Congress supporters. Hence, the video and the claim are both FALSE.

Claim: Telangana supporters seen waving the Indian flag replacing the Ashok Chakra with Kalima written on it.
Conclusion: False, the video was one year old and the clip belongs to Anti-Nupur Sharma protests held in June 2022.
Rating: Misleading —
