Old video of Galwan being shared as that of recent Tawang clashes; Fact Check

As the recent clashes on December 9, 2022 between Indian and Chinese troops in the Tawang sector of Arunachal Pradesh are making headlines, a video purportedly showing the aftermath of the incident has gone viral on social media. The clip showed Chinese troops tending to an injured soldier with a claim that read:“Somebody convey the condition of their Chinese soldiers to Richa Chadha…!”

It has been viewed over 70,000 times on Twitter and retweeted over 1,200 times as of December 13.

As per the reports, Indian and Chinese soldiers were injured in a face-off in Tawang and the Indian Defence Minister has made a statement to the effect in Parliament as well. He said both sides have disengaged and a flag meeting was held to restore peace and tranquility along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

Soon after, the above video with a jibe at Bollywood actress was making rounds. Several people have shared the video claiming that the Indian side has sent back the chinese soldiers.

FACT CHECK

When the Digiteye India team searched for the original video of the clash with some frames, it was traced back to the Galwan valley clash in June 2020, that resulted in 20 casualties on the Indian side and many more on the Chinese side. The original video was posted by the China News Service on the Galwan incident, which featured the visuals from the viral video (from 2:21 mins).

However, the same video is being shared falsely as that of the Tawang incident.

Claim: Video claims Indian troops clashed and chased away the intruding Chinese soldiers
Conclusion: Wrong and old video of Galwan vallye clash of 2020 used to support the claim.
Rating: Misrepresentation –
