Pakistan PM never tweeted congratulating Congress, SDPI on Karnataka poll victory; Fact Check

Soon after the victory of Congress Party in the Karnataka Assembly elections, a screenshot of a tweet dated 13 May 2023 from Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is going viral on social media. The message congratulates the Congress Party on their win and brings in the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), implying the Islamic outfit’s influence in Karnataka.

See the message in Urdu and English. It has been shared widely on Twitter and on other social media platforms.

FACT CHECK

When the Digiteye India team looked for the original tweet from Pakistan Prime Minister, there was no such tweet by him on May 13 as claimed. The Twitter account of the Pakistani Prime Minister had three messages on the day and none of them pertaining to the Congress Party’s victory in the Karnataka elections or about the SDPI.

Hence, the tweet was wrongly put out to malign the Congress Party linking it with Pakistan. Moreover, no country’s prime minister tweets on internal developments of another country involving Islamic outfits such as SDPI as was claimed in this tweet. Hence, the tweet is totally false.

Claim: Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on 13 May 2023 tweeted congratulating the Congress Party on its win in the Karnataka Assembly elections and suggested that they could work with SDPI to strengthen the Islam in Karnataka.

Conclusion: Shehbaz Sharif has never made any such tweet related to Congress victory in Karnataka nor on SDPI on 13 May 2023

Rating: Totally False — Five rating
