Fact Check

When Digiteye India received a request on WhatsApp, the team took it up and searched for the original video. The same clip has been shared by Congress Party handles giving the full context. See the tweet shared by Supriya Shrinate, Chairperson of the Congress’ Social Media and Digital Platforms cell, on November 20.

The video runs into 3 minutes 40 seconds in which Rahul Gandhi can be seen saying “Chandna ji has just raised the slogan, ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’. So the question is heard many times but who is this Bharat Mata, what is this?” Then he goes on to explain who’s or what’s Bharat Mata. Going into the full context of the speech and video version, the following version clears the air about the context:

“Look, Bharat Mata is this earth, Bharat Mata is the people of this country. Your brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, poor people, rich people, elderly people, all the people in whom the voice of Bharat Mata echoes. This is Bharat Mata. In Parliament also I said, ‘Look, I want to know who is this Bharat Mata, that means who are these people? How much population does she have? How many tribals, how many dalits, how many backward people, how many poor and rich people. If we chant ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ and we are ready to give our lives in sacrifice. If we don’t know how many backwards, how many dalits, how many poor people are there in this country, then what is the meaning of Bharat Mata Ki Jai? Therefore, this country will now have to conduct an census on these grounds.”

Further, the full video was made available on Rahul Gandhi’s official YouTube account as seen above. The full version of the 35 minute video of Rahul Gandhi in the public meeting held in Bundi, Rajasthan shows the full context and the real version.

Claim: Video clip shows Rahul Gandhi saying asking “Who is this Bharat Mata” and alleges he’s “puppet of George Soros.”

Conclusion: The video clip has been shortened to misrepresent the full context of the speech.
