Video of brawl goes viral claiming Ajay Devgn thrashed in Delhi for support to farm laws; Fact Check

A video is being shared on social media about a brawl which the caption claims was that of farmers thrashing Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn for his support to farm laws.

The video on Facebook appeared with a message in Hindi that said:“दिल्ली में अभिनेता अजय देवगन की पिटाई का वीडियो वायरल हुआ किसानों के मुद्दे पर विरोध बताया जा रहा है कारण.” The translated version reads: [Video of actor Ajay Devgan’s thrashing went viral in Delhi, for opposing farmers on their issue.]

FACT CHECK

When Digiteye India team searched for the video taking a frame and checked it in Google Reverse Image Search, it threw up several videos in turn. The video was used in a report by NDTV on March 28, 2021, with a headline: “Group Fight Erupts Near Delhi Airport After Two Cars Scrape Each Other” in Aerocity when one of their vehicles “slightly touched” another. The incident happened on March 27, 2021.

Reports said two persons — Taranjit Singh (31), a resident of Janakpuri and Naveen Kumar (29), a resident of Chhawla village were arrested but nowhere was it linked to actor Ajay Devgn.

Further search on Twitter showed that actor Devgn has issued a denial stating that the reports of the actor getting beaten up outside the Aerocity mall in New Delhi are baseless and untrue.

The statement clarifies that Ajay Devgn, who has been busy shooting in Mumbai for Maidaan, MayDay and Gangubai Kathiawadi, hasn’t gone to Delhi as claimed.

Conclusion: The video does not show Ajay Devgn being thrashed by farmers as per the claim.
