Did Julian Brown, 22, develop PLASTOLINE, clean-burning alternative fuel from plastic waste? Fact Check

Claim: Julian Brown, a 22-year-old inventor from Atlanta, Georgia, has officially developed and demonstrated PLASTOLINE, a clean-burning alternative fuel derived from plastic waste.

Conclusion: The claim is true. Julian Brown’s PLASTOLINE has been successfully demonstrated by him. Other media outlets have also reported about this.

Rating: True

Recently, several social media users have claimed that Julian Brown, a 22-year-old inventor from Atlanta, Georgia, has officially developed and demonstrated Plastoline. Verified X user ‘IsaacHayes3’ shared such a post, claiming that ‘Julian started a ‘2023 Scat Pack’ car running entirely on PLASTOLINE, proving his invention works in real life’.

Using a solar-powered microwave pyrolysis reactor, he converts non-recyclable plastics into a high-octane (110) gasoline equivalent that produces lower emissions than traditional fuels. View the post below:

Other users have also shared such a claim which can be viewed here and here.

FACT CHECK

DigitEYE India decided to investigate this claim and found that it is true. While the core concept of converting plastic waste into fuel via thermal decomposition dates back decades, Julian Brown took a new approach -‘Microwave pyrolysis’.

This method uses microwave pyrolysis, a process in which plastic is heated in the absence of oxygen, breaking down into hydrocarbons which then can be refined into synthetic diesel. The advantage of this technology is: it accepts even contaminated mixed plastic waste from oceans, waste streams or hard-to-recycle plastics. His unique contribution helps enhance efficiency and reduce emissions, as confirmed by many media outlets.

We first conducted a web search with the phrase “Julian Brown Plastoline” and came across his post that went viral. The demonstration in Atlanta on October 4, 2025 shows a fuel-empty Dodge Scat Pack car failing to start, followed by the addition of Plastoline, which enables smooth ignition and operation. We then stumbled upon an interview published by WTVM News with Julian Brown himself. It states how “his [Julian Brown] fuel has been tested by scientists and even used in cars. Some researchers say his diesel released cleaner emissions than traditional diesel.” View a section of the published interview below. Full report here

Another report published by The Economic Times also credited the invention of Plastoline to Julian Brown. The report highlights how “Brown’s reactor operates using solar panels…Unlike standard plastic recycling, which produces high emissions…microwave pyrolysis still creates carbon but at lower levels.” View a section of the report below –

We also learned from Julain Brown’s LinkedIn post that ASAP Labs and independent physicists verified fuel purity and cleaner emissions. This was also reported by The Patent Invention Magazine who said that ASAP Labs in Vancouver, Washington supported the idea of plant diesel burning even better than conventional diesel.

Julian Brown’s Plastoline successfully converts mixed plastic waste from oceans , waste streams into viable, cleaner fuel, as demonstrated publicly and lab-tested. While building on existing pyrolysis, his solar microwave refinement marks a genuine, innovative advancement in sustainable energy.

Thus, the claim is true.
