Rating : Totally False — Five rating

Recently, a screenshot has been circulating around social media, showcasing a Truth Social Post by US President Donald Trump. Verified X user ‘TheMoneyApe’ shared such a post, depicting a purported Truth Social post from @realDonaldTrump dated January 20, 2026, at 10:17 PM, urging “crypto guys” to support his acquisition of Greenland in exchange for “the biggest, greenest candles you’ve ever seen.” This implies a link between U.S. control of Greenland and cryptocurrency market gains. FACT CHECK

DigitEYE India decided to investigate this claim and found that it is totally false. No such post exists on Trump’s official Truth Social account and this screenshot seems to be fabricated. Trump has escalated efforts to secure a deal on Greenland but has not connected this to cryptocurrency.

Details:

We first searched for President Trump’s official Truth Social account and his posts made on January 20, 2026 to learn more. On January 20, 2026 at 10:17pm, Trump had posted, “No single person, or President, has done more for NATO than President Donald J. Trump. If I didn’t come along, there would be no NATO right now!!! It would have been in the ash heap of History. Sad, but TRUE!!! President DJT” This is different from the post in the claim and does not relate to cryptocurrency. Next, we searched for any other posts made by Trump regarding cryptocurrency and Greenland link. However, we did not come across any such post on his Truth Social account or on his X account. He announced a “framework of a future deal” with NATO on January 22, 2026, also on Truth Social, backing off from tariffs on his EU allies. View the post below –

We then conducted a web search using the phrase “Trump statement on Greenland crypto” to gather more details. Recent search results about Trump’s statements on Greenland primarily reference to his speech in Davos, where he said, “I won’t use force” to acquire Greenland. Other reports focus on his rollback of tariff threats and his meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

Crypto news websites and forums have not covered any such statements as shown in the claim. According to a report by Decrypt,Investors pulled nearly $1 billion from exchange-traded funds” as geopolitical tensions spiked. As the report notes, Bitcoin “is acting like a high-beta and risk-on asset,” and that crypto is “not yet digital gold in investors’ minds.” This report did not cover any content allegedly posted by Trump in the claim.

Thus, the claim is totally false and the image is fabricated.
