FACT CHECK

DigitEYE India decided to investigate this claim and found it to be false. In the footage from April 7, 2026, at Castel Gandolfo, Pope Leo XIV does not reference the Bible. While he noted that many people have described the war as “unjust,” he did not attribute that characterization to Trump or call for his impeachment.

We first analyzed the video in the claim and  cross checked the audio transcript to see whether Pope Leo XIV has actually said that. In the video there is no mention of the Bible or any direct attack on Trump. The post has manipulated Pope Leo XIV’s words to portray it in a manner against US President Donald Trump.

Take a look at the whole transcript of the video :

“I would simply say once again what I said in the…message on Sunday asking all people of goodwill to search always for peace, not violence, to reject war, especially a war which many people have said is an unjust war which is continuing to escalate, which is not resolving anything. In fact we have a world wide economic crisis, energy crisis, the situation in the middle east of great instability which is only provoking more hatred throughout the world. So come back to the table, let’s talk, let’s look for solutions in a peaceful way.

Let’s remember the innocent, children, the elderly, the sick and so many that have already become and will become of this continued warfare. To remind all that attacks on civilian infrastructure is against international law but that it is also a sign of the hatred, the division, the destruction, the human being is capable of. We all want to work for peace, the people want peace. I would invite the citizens of all the countries involved to contact their authorities, political leaders, congressmen, to ask them, tell them to work for peace and to reject war always.”

Following this, we conducted a web search using the phrase “Pope Leo XIV comments on Trump” to learn more. According to a Reuters report published on April 8, 2026, Pope Leo XIV said that “threats against the population of Iran are unacceptable,” criticizing him. This was in response to a Truth Social post by Donald Trump in which he said that “a whole civilization will die tonight,” referring to Iran. View a section of the other comments in the report below –

Another report published by Vatican News also mentions that Pope Leo XIV called that “the threat unacceptable” but no mention of impeachment. The report accounts the Pope’s actual remarks from April 7, 2026, at Castel Gandolfo. The Pope attributed the “unjust” label to “many people” rather than declaring it outrightly against “Trump’s war” in Iran.

We did not find any report or evidence which proves that the Pope called on Americans to call upon Congress and impeach Trump. In the footage, the Pope can be heard urging all citizens of all the countries to call their leaders and work towards peace. He did not single out Americans or call for impeachment.

Thus, the claim is false.
