FACT CHECK
DigitEYE India decided to investigate this claim and found it to be false. The footage captures police using force while detaining a 17-year-old boy during a protest in Sheffield. Although he suffered injuries that led to hospital treatment, he was released later that day and did not die.
Details:
We first conducted a reverse image search on various keyframes of the video to learn more about the incident. The search took us to a report published by The Star that has shared the video and mentioned that it’s from the “Raise The Colours Sheffield” protest. The report notes how “ the officer throws the protestor forcefully into a metal bollard before around a dozen other coppers surround him.” However, the report also writes that the teenager was “subsequently de-arrested in order to receive medical treatment…where he later discharged himself” and nothing about death. According to a report by The Guardian, the Sheffield demonstration was organised by Raise The Colours, a group that describes itself as a “grassroots movement for unity and patriotism” and campaigns against illegal immigration. The report noted that a 17-year-old boy was detained following an alleged attack on an emergency worker during clashes between protesters and counter-protesters.
Following this, we searched more about the teenager and what happened at the “Raise The Colours Sheffield” protest. A different report by The Star noted that South Yorkshire Police and the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) found “no evidence” that the 17-year-old boy injured during the Raise the Colours protest had been knocked unconscious. Following a review of body-worn footage, use-of-force reports and witness statements, police said the teenager was “quickly de-arrested” and taken to hospital. View a section from the report below –

Lastly, we came across a Reuters-published photo report on June 13, 2026, describing anti-fascist demonstrators marching through Sheffield city centre to counter a “Raise The Colours” Sheffield protest outside a hotel housing migrants. According to the report, the counter-protest drew participants opposing “anti-immigration activism” and expressing “support for migrant communities”, highlighting the competing demonstrations that took place in the city that day.
Thus, the claim is false and the teenager did not die.
