Did King Charles III really call for the US to join the UK in a war against Russia? Fact Check

Claim: King Charles calls for the U.S. to be ready to join the United Kingdom in a war against Russia.

Conclusion: The claim is misleading. King Charles did not call for the U.S. to join the UK in any offensive “war against Russia.” He urged continued U.S. support for Ukraine’s defense against Russia’s invasion, framing it as a matter of NATO unity and shared democratic resolve.

Rating: Misleading

Several social media users have shared a video clip, claiming that the UK is calling for the United States’ support. X user ‘ShaykhSulaiman’ shared such a post with the caption : “JUST IN: KING CHARLES CALLS FOR U.S TO BE READY TO JOIN UK IN A WAR AGAINST RUSSIA” Attached to the post is a 53 second clip of the King Charles III speaking at a podium, followed by congressional applause. View the post below –

Transcript of the clip – …of 9/11, when NATO invoked Article Five for the first time, and the United Nations Security Council was united in the face of terror, we answered the call together – as our people have done so for more than a century, shoulder to shoulder, through two World Wars, the Cold War, Afghanistan and moments that have defined our shared security.Today, Mr. Speaker, that same, unyielding resolve is needed for the defense of Ukraine and her most courageous people.”

FACT CHECK

DigitEYE India decided to investigate this claim and found it to be misleading. King Charles did not advocate for the United States to enter into any offensive conflict with Russia alongside the UK. Instead, he called for sustained American backing of Ukraine’s defense against the Russian invasion, presenting it as part of NATO solidarity and a shared commitment to democratic values.

According to a report by Al Jazeera on 27 April 2026, King Charles III and Queen Camilla arrived in the United States for a four-day visit from April 27 to April 30, described as “the most significant overseas visit of his reign to date”. The itinerary includes a White House welcome, a joint address to the US Congress, and a visit to New York where they will attend a ceremony at the September 11 memorial and meet first responders. The report mentions how this visit aims to highlight “the breadth of the economic, security and cultural” relationship.

We first conducted a reverse image search on various keyframes of the video to learn about the issue. The search took us to a Youtube video uploaded by The Royal Family on 30 April 2026. The video is titled : “Watch in full: The King’s Address to Congress” and the description notes how his “Majesty talks of the shared history and common goals of the UK and the US during his four-day State Visit to America.” View a screenshot below –

We located the moment when he began saying those words, and the full context starts at the 18:50 timestamp. He begins by speaking about the tragedy of 9/11 and its significance as a defining moment in the relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States. He further talks about paying respect to the victims when he and his wife visit the memorial in New York.

His speech directly follows references to NATO’s Article 5 invocation after 9/11, when allies supported the U.S., and it emphasizes defensive solidarity, not offensive war. There is no evidence to suggest that he said anything about the UK initiating a war against Russia or asking the U.S. to support it. The King only referenced post-9/11 unity, linking this to supporting Ukraine’s defense, not initiating U.S.-UK aggression against Russia.

According to a report by USA Today on the address, King Charles III told Congress that “whatever our differences… we stand united” in upholding democracy and protecting people, reinforcing the enduring UK-US alliance. He linked this unity to present challenges, urging support for “the defense of Ukraine,” warning against isolationism and calling attention to the “collapse of critical natural systems.” The report does not mention anything about the UK initiating a war against Russia and asking for US aid.

Thus, the claim is misleading.
