DigitEYE India decided to investigate this claim and found it to be false. Footage from the 2026 FIFA World Cup final award ceremony shows that Lamine Yamal did hand shake with U.S. President Donald Trump while receiving his medal. There is no credible evidence that he deliberately ignored or disrespected Trump. The viral clip has been selectively manipulated to create a false narrative.
We first read the AOL article shared alongside the claim and found it to be irrelevant. Firstly, the article does not provide any evidence to support the claim that Lamine Yamal disrespected Trump by ignoring his handshake. Instead, it states that Spain captain Rodri patted Trump on the back before giving him a gentle push, seemingly indicating that it was time for him to leave the stage before Spain lifted the World Cup trophy.
Next, we conducted a web search with the phrase “Yamal and Trump award ceremony during the FIFA World Cup 2026” to learn more. A Youtube Short uploaded by IndianGlobalReview clearly shows how Yamal shook Trump’s hand. Yamal appeared to miss Trump’s outstretched hand while speaking to FIFA President Gianni Infantino, but he immediately turned and shook Trump’s hand.
Another YouTube video uploaded by Diario AS shows a longer clip of the award ceremony. At the 1:38 timestamp, Lamine Yamal walks onto the stage as FIFA President Gianni Infantino addresses him while Trump extends his hand. At the 1:41 timestamp, Yamal is seen shaking Trump’s hand before accepting his medal, with no indication of any disrespect. View a video/screenshot below:
