Rating: Totally False — Five rating

Fact Check Details:

A video depicting a press briefing by ‘Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’ with its banner showing prominently on the wall behind is being shared on social media with a claim that the ruling BJP’s parent organisation has pledged its support to the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc consisting of the opposition parties in the Lok Sabha elections scheduled to be held from April 19 to June 1, 2024.

The claim in X post in Hindi, when translated into English reads as: “RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) supported INDIA alliance across the country, Appealed to Sanghis across the country to vote in favor of INDIA alliance.”

In this video, a person by the name Janardhan Moon, is speaking to the press under the banner ‘Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’ and calling for the defeat of BJP and pledging their support to the INDIA bloc.

The video has gone viral on X with more than 300,000 views. It can be seen here and here.

FACT-CHECK

Since the claim is too unrealistic, Digiteye India looked for some clues from the video and found the name of the speaker crop up in the middle as Janardhan Moon, Founder and President. Based on this, we searched on Google for RSS+Janardhan Moon only to find news reports pertaining to a different organisation bearing the same name as the parent organisation of the BJP.

As per news reports, an attempt to register the name of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh by Moon since 2017 has been rejected by the Registrar and even turned down by the Bombay High Court. The original RSS has, meanwhile, moved the Election Commission of India following the press conference video of Janardhan Moon and sought the poll body to restrain his bid to mislead people using the name of RSS.

Hence, the claim is false.
