When PM Narendra Modi was elected unanimously by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to lead the alliance and form the government, a video surfaced on social media with a claim that Nitin Gadkari, a senior BJP leader, did not stand up to applaud for Modi along with others.

Sharing the video on social media, the caption in the post reads: “Watch how Nitin Gadkari refused to stand up and chant Modi Modi. Glad someone showed the spine to resist this distasteful circus”.
It has been shared here and here.
FACT-CHECK
Digiteye India took up the claim and checked for the original video. When we checked the live-streamed ANI video on the entire NDA meeting, the claim seemed misrepresented.
At 26:00 in the timestamp, Modi enters the hall, and Nitin Gadkari is clearly seen standing and clapping along with other NDA members. Again, when BJP president J.P. Nadda felicitated Modi, all members were seen standing up, including Nitin Gadkari at the 27:56 timestamp. Later, Nitin Gadkari also supported the proposal naming Narendra Modi as the NDA Parliamentary Party Leader, as per news reports.
Hence, the claim is false.
Claim: Nitin Gadkari, a senior BJP leader, did not stand up to applaud for Modi as NDA leader along with others.
Conclusion: The claim is false. Not only did Nitin Gadkari stand up but also supported the proposal naming Modi as the NDA Parliamentary Party Leader.
Rating: Misrepresentation —
