Does this video really show protestors kissing during a CJP protest in Jantar Mantar? Fact Check

Claim: A video shows protesters kissing during a protest by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar.

Conclusion: The claim is Misrepresentation. The video is old, unrelated and actually shows footage from the 2014 “Kiss of Love” campaign at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), not the ongoing Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. While CJP is currently protesting at Jantar Mantar over issues such as exam irregularities, the viral video was not recorded during that protest.

Rating: Misrepresentation

Several social media users have shared a video claiming it shows a moment from a protest by the Cockroach Janata Party held at Jantar Mantar. Verified X user ‘SonofBharat7’ shared one such post with the caption (translated from Hindi): “At 2 AM at Jantar Mantar. The Cockroach Protest reaches its peak. This protest won’t stop…. It’ll keep going like this.. It’ll grow.” The attached video begins with two protesters kissing, followed by other protesters doing the same. View the post below –

FACT CHECK

DigitEYE India decided to investigate this claim and found it to be misleading. The viral video does not depict the ongoing Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. Instead, it is footage from the 2014 “Kiss of Love” campaign held at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). Although CJP is currently staging protests at Jantar Mantar over alleged examination irregularities, the circulating video is unrelated to those demonstrations.

Details:

We first conducted a reverse image search using several keyframes from the viral video to trace its origin. The search led us to a YouTube video uploaded on 12 November 2014, titled “kiss of Love” festival JNU. Although the video does not include a description, a comparison confirms that it is the same footage shared in the claim.

Following this, we used the title of the video and conducted a web search using the phrase “Kiss of Love JNU” to gather more context. According to a BBC article published on 12 November 2014, the “Kiss of Love” campaign began in Kerala as a protest against moral policing and later spread across India. The report noted that “university students in Calcutta, Hyderabad and Delhi organised ‘Kiss of Love’ protests in a show of solidarity.”

The report has shared an image that matches the footage in the claim and the same one from the “Kiss of love” festival in JNU. View a screenshot of this below –

Lastly, we searched about the real CJP protest being held at Jantar Mantar in Delhi and the current status. According to a TOI report published on 15 July 2026, comedian Kunal Kamra and Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad joined the CJP protest, which is “seeking Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation over alleged irregularities in the NEET examination.” The report also noted that climate activist Sonam Wangchuk had entered the 18th day of his indefinite hunger strike in solidarity with the movement.

None of the reports or visuals from the ongoing CJP protest resemble the viral video shared in the claim.

Thus, the claim is Misrepresentation.
