FACT CHECK
DigitEYE India decided to investigate this claim and found it to be false. The note was not personally given by Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu, and the audio in the claim is muted to create a false standoff with Chinese FM Wang Yi. The original video originates from a joint press conference on 18 December 2013, concluding with a handshake between the two leaders.
We first conducted a reverse image search on various keyframes of the video to learn about the source. The search took us to a Youtube video uploaded on the ‘IsraeliPM’ Youtube channel back on December 18, 2013. The video is titled : “Statements by PM Netanyahu and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi”
We then watched the whole video to understand the context and what really occurred during the meeting. The claim alleges that a note was handed by PM Netanyahu but in the original video at 5:43 timestamp, clearly someone else does it. DigitEYE India could not verify the identity of this person but it is confirmed that PM Netayanhu did not hand the note and Wang Yi was not angry at him.
The clip in the claim is edited by omitting the audio of Netanyahu, Wang Yi speaking and the translator creating a false “standoff” impression. In reality, from 5:39 timestamp to 6:27, Wang Yi’s translator is conveying the message to him. After the translation, at 6:28, PM Netanyahu welcomes Wang Yi by saying : “Welcome to Israel, welcome to Jerusalem” and then cordially greet each other. We then conducted a web search with the phrase “PM Netanyahu meets Chinese FM Wang Yi, 18 December, 2013” to learn more. A report published by Times of Israel in 2013 confirms this exchange, writing about security concerns about Iran and other growing economic ties. The report mentions how “Netanyahu insists that “for the peace of the world… Iran must be denied the capability to develop nuclear weapons…”
Wang Yi stressed that both sides should “adhere to the path of peace talks” and build “mutual trust” for stability. Alongside this tension, the meeting also underscores economic cooperation, as both leaders note their “highly complementary” economies with a “very bright future” for mutual benefit. Thus, the claim is false.
