False claims surface about 96-yr-old BJP’s veteran leader LK Advani; Fact Check

Claim: BJP’s veteran leader  L.K  Advani passed away.

Conclusion: The claim is false. L.K. Advani was admitted to the AIIMS Hospital in New Delhi on July 3, 2024, and discharged the next day as his condition improved to ‘stable’.

A post on social media claims veteran BJP leader and former Deputy Prime Minister of India L.K Advani had passed away on 6th July 2024.

The 96-year-old veteran political leader served as India’s 7th Deputy Prime Minister, from 2002 to 2004. He is one of the co-founders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and had the distinction of serving as Minister of Home Affairs for the longest period from 1998 to 2004.

Died: 06 July 2024”

The post being shared on social media led many people to believe it and a Union minister even paid homage to the veteran leader while addressing a public meeting at Tumkur.

Fact Check:

Digiteye India checked the image on Google reverse image search and found many news outlets gave news about his health condition. The 96 year old BJP veteran was admitted to AIIMS in Delhi for an  old age-related issue on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 and he was discharged at around 2 pm the next day. Hospital sources confirmed that his condition was completely stable. The Union Minister too apologised for the gaffe as news reports confirmed.
