FACT CHECK
DigitEYE India decided to investigate the claim and found that it is false. The original footage does not account for such statements. The clip shared in the claim is altered using AI and no such statements were said by AFP commissioner Krissy Barrett.
Details:
We first conducted a reverse image search using several keyframes from the shared clip to identify its origin. The search led us to the original footage included in a report published by The Guardian on 18th December 2025. The video is from Barrett’s press conference held on 17 December 2025 and was uploaded on The Guardian’s YouTube channel under the title: “List of the 59 offences the alleged Bondi Beach gunman has been charged with.” View the original video and screenshot of this below –

In the original video, Barrett talks about how the surviving Bondi Beach shooter is charged with 59 offences. She further talks about counter-terrorism operations and how there is a lot of material to be examined. Furthermore, she says AFP continues to work with both domestic and international partners, assures that the AFP is also investigating hate preachers and will review information in relation to these individuals. These statements have also been confirmed in a media statement released by AFP. View the screenshot here –

There are no reports that suggest 4 Indian nationals were arrested and further searches too yielded no credible results. Official records show only Naveed Akram, a 24-year-old from Bonnyrigg, NSW, charged with 59 offenses, including 15 murders and terrorism. His father, Sajid Akram (50), was killed at the scene. According to a report by ABC, seven men were arrested in a separate operation on December 18, 2025, for “extremist Islamic ideology,” but they were released without charges.
Next, we extracted the audio shared in the claim and put it in an AI detector to check its authenticity. The results showed that the audio used in the clip is AI generated with only 1% possibility of being it real. View the screenshot of the results below –

Lastly, we searched for any official clarification from the AFP about such fake videos shared online. In a media statement released on 20 December, 2025, AFP stated that they are “aware of social media posts that have used AI to distort and change the comments of AFP Commissioner Krissy Barrett in relation to the alleged Bondi Beach terror attack.” Furthermore, the “AFP recommends the public seek information from official websites.” See below:
Thus, the claim is false.
