In one section of the video, Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi appears to be saying – “…they crossed the international waters, as Israeli strategic allies, it was our duty to inform Israel about their exact location as a part of our newer strategic deal …We can provide Israel with location or intelligence but we had no role in Israel-US torpedo attack…” The claim seems to highlight this section by framing how India allegedly betrayed Iran by giving Israel intel about the location of the ship.

On 4 March 2026, as per a New Indian Express report, the U.S. Navy sank the Iranian frigate IRIS Dena with a torpedo fired from a nuclear-powered submarine in the Indian Ocean, about 40 nautical miles south of Galle, Sri Lanka. The vessel was returning to Iran after participating in naval engagements hosted by India in Visakhapatnam when the attack occurred. Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath said injured sailors were taken to hospitals, while Navy spokesperson Buddhika Sampath stated that Sri Lanka responded to the distress call.
We first conducted a reverse image search to learn about the origin of the video. The search took us to the original video uploaded by Firstpost on Youtube on March 7, 2026 titled : “India’s Army Chief Speaks on Op Sindoor, Pakistan and Future of Warfare | Raisina Dialogue 2026”. This podcast was about “lessons from Operation Sindoor and the evolving nature of warfare.” View a screenshot below –

In the original video, there are no discussions about the Israel and US war on Iran. Following this, we conducted a web search with the phrase “General Upendra Dwivedi comments on drowned Iran navy ship” to learn more. However, we did not come across credible news reports or official statements about any such remarks.
According to a NDTV report, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar explained that India allowed the Iranian vessel IRIS Lavan to dock at Kochi after Iran reported technical problems. He noted that the Iranian ships had originally come to India for naval events but “got in a way caught on the wrong side of events,” referring to the escalation involving the United States, Israel and Iran in the region. Jaishankar said “we approached the situation from the point of view of humanity… and I think we did the right thing,” View a section from the report below –
