FACT CHECK

DigitEYE India decided to investigate this claim and found it to be misleading. The incident shown in the viral clip did take place, but it happened at Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu, as confirmed through the tourist’s own Instagram and YouTube vlogs. The woman is a Thai national, and the footage has been wrongly linked to India.

Details:

We first conducted a reverse image search on the images shared in the claim to learn more about the incident. The search took us to an Instagram post by nepal.360 that showcases an extended version of the footage. The post clearly states that “A disturbing video from Pashupatinath area shows a Thai tourist being harassed during a visit to Nepal.”

Following this, another result took us to a post by nepal_hotspot that was captioned, “A video circulating on social media shows a Thai tourist being hara’ssed within the premises of the Pashupatinath area in Kathmandu.”

Lastly, we searched for the original source of the post by the vlogger herself and learnt that her channel name is ‘mintnawinda’. She had posted this clip on May 3, 2026 with the caption (translated into English) : “I was just out for a casual stroll when I suddenly encountered this situation. Normally, I wouldn’t give anything—but they told me they were hungry.”

Next, we searched across her official Youtube channel for the full vlog and this specific moment of harassment. We landed on her video titled “🇳🇵Trying CRAZY Nepal Street Food for the First Time! Buffalo Meat… I Didn’t Expect This”. From the title, it is clear that she was on a trip to Nepal where the incident occurred and not India.

At the 38:18 timestamp, the man approaches her, asks for money then behaves inappropriately. View this moment below –

Thus, the location is actually Nepal, not India.

The claim is misleading.
