FACT CHECK

DigitEYE India decided to investigate this claim and found it to be false. No official directive from the Italian government, statement by PM Meloni or announcement from Italian authorities indicates any ban on Israeli tourists. Israeli citizens still retain visa-free access to Italy for stays of up to 90 days.

Details:

We first conducted a web search with the phrase “Italy bans Israeli tourists” to learn more about the claim. However, we did not come across any reports or credible evidence that suggests such a ban has been imposed. Searches of Italian government sources, Meloni’s statements and major outlets do not confirm such a ban.

Following this, we came across a report by WAFA published on 21 September 2025 regarding Italy barring Israel from the International tourism fair TTG Travel Experience 2025. The fair took place from October 8 to 10 in the city of Rimini, and the move came “amid growing pressure from the city’s municipality and widespread public outrage over Israel’s ongoing genocidal onslaught on the Gaza Strip.”

The report further notes that Rimini Mayor Jamil Sadegholvaad stated that “the decision was made due to mounting security concerns and the risk of large-scale protests.” This move “follows a wave of demonstrations across Italy in solidarity with Palestine” However, we did not find anything about Italy banning Israeli tourists throughout the country. Next, an AP report published on 8 January 2026 stated that Italy’s aviation authority, ENAC, condemned a pro-Palestinian protest at Milan Malpensa Airport in which activists temporarily blocked passengers from boarding a flight to Tel Aviv. The report noted that ENAC described the incident as “particularly serious” because it violated “the principles of safety, neutrality” and “the right to mobility of all citizens,”

ENAC President Pierluigi Di Palma reaffirmed Italy’s “non-negotiable commitment” to ensuring passengers can move “freely and safely” through Italian airports during a meeting with Israel’s ambassador to Italy, Jonathan Peled. We found no evidence that Italy banned Israeli tourists, rather Italian authorities condemned attempts to obstruct Israeli-bound passengers. View this section from the report below –

Lastly, we went to Italy’s visa portal to check whether Israeli tourists are allowed in the country or not. After filling in 4 basic questions about nationality, residence, length of stay and reason for stay, the results stated that Israeli tourists are welcome and do not need a visa (up to 90 days stay). This proves that tourists from Israel are still allowed in Italy and no such ban has been imposed. View a screenshot of the results below –

Thus, the claim is false.
