Following Iran’s missile strikes on Tuesday night pounding Tel Aviv, social media is abuzz with a viral video of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu running down a corridor, with users claiming he was fleeing to a bunker in response to the attacks.

The caption along with the post reads: “Israel Prime Mouth Netanyahu is running like a coward… Running for his like as Iranian ballistics missiles rain on them.” Another  post read, “Israel PM Benjamin Netanyahu is running to save his life. How many days will he hide in a bunker?”

FACT CHECK

Taking few key frames of the video, Digiteye India team searched on Google Reverse Image Search to get results which pointed out that the video was three years old and refers to a different context. It was posted by Netanyahu himself on his official X (formerly Twitter) account in Hebrew on December 14, 2021 as seen below:

Translated into English, Netanyahu wrote:”I am always proud to run for you. It was taken half an hour ago in the Knesset.” This confirms the video was captured while Netanyahu was in the Knesset, Israel’s parliament, running to attend a session as head of the opposition at the time. Some Hebrew news reports from December 2021 also indicate that he was rushing to arrive in time for a vote in the Knesset Plenum. Hence, the claim that he was fleeing from Iran’s missile attack is false.
